Argentina’s Vice President Victoria Villarruel mentioned she discussed Bitcoin (BTC) with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele during his visit to Buenos Aires.
Villarruel met Bukele twice during his visit, during which he also met with Argentina’s President Javier Milei, who is keen on Bitcoin.
Argentina’s Vice President: El Salvador Is a BTC Pioneer
After her private meeting with Bukele, Villarruel informed news reporters that they discussed BTC adoption.
“We talked about Bitcoin, which is an area where El Salvador is a pioneer. We spoke about how they had implemented it and how they managed to attract remittances from citizens abroad that come into El Salvador.”

Villarruel described her conversation with Bukele as “very interesting, very pleasant, and very simple.”
She also stated that the two countries’ “parliamentary friendship group” would continue to discuss related matters.
The summit organizers in Argentina broadcasted Villarruel and Bukele entering a meeting room together.
Leaders Discuss Volcano Bonds
During this broadcast, a Twitter user captured and shared a clip where Villarruel expressed to Bukele:
“I really wanted to take advantage of these few minutes [we have together] to talk to you about Bitcoin, because it is something that interests me a lot. I also want to speak about the Volcano Bonds project.”
The bonds project refers to Bukele’s initiative to launch “Bitcoin bonds” on the Bitfinex crypto exchange.
Bukele aims to use the income from these bonds to help develop a Bitcoin-themed settlement named Bitcoin City.
Villarruel reportedly expressed interest in learning more about El Salvador’s National Commission for Digital Assets (CNAD).
The CNAD is responsible for overseeing and promoting the development of the Salvadoran crypto “ecosystem.”
Since Milei assumed office in late 2023, top Salvadoran and Argentine officials have convened several key Bitcoin-themed meetings.
Following a summit in March this year, CNAD leaders met with the head of the National Securities Commission of Argentina (CNV) in May for BTC-related discussions.
