The controversial video featured a character named “America” discussing innovation and crypto with a therapist, who dismissed his concerns in favor of focusing on gender and pronouns. The man later delivered a patriotic monologue about his desire to innovate and build technology rather than focus on gender. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko distanced himself from the campaign, stating that a previous marketing effort, the “Maren ad,” had been more effective. Although the original post was deleted, users have reposted it on the platform.
**Community Backlash**
Several industry figures criticized the initiative for its approach to gender identity and political tone. Cinneamhain Ventures partner Adam Cochran noted that it took Solana nine hours to remove the post, highlighting initial support from significant figures in the ecosystem who later retracted their engagement. He remarked, “They approved this, supported it and celebrated it. They rolled it back because it hurt their business, not because they thought it was wrong.” Blocknative operating chief Sean O’Connor called the initiative “tone-deaf,” especially in light of recent U.S. policy changes. Tyler Bench, CRO of Tally.xyz, described the campaign as problematic, comparing it to previous Coinbase ads with a more extreme tone.
