### Crypto Investigator Criticizes Coinbase for Account Lockouts and Undisclosed Data Breach

Prominent crypto investigator ZachXBT has publicly criticized Coinbase, accusing the popular exchange of repeatedly locking user accounts and failing to disclose a data breach that allegedly resulted in thefts. In a recent tweet, ZachXBT expressed frustration over being locked out of his Coinbase account twice in the past month without explanation. He further alleged that the undisclosed breach exposed user data, leading to financial losses for some customers.

Despite acknowledging Coinbase’s competitive interest rates on stablecoins, ZachXBT stated that he could not recommend the platform due to these unresolved issues. His comments come amid rising concerns about Coinbase’s user security and support, challenging its reputation as a secure and transparent exchange.

ZachXBT has previously criticized Coinbase for its inadequate response to security threats, revealing that at least $65 million was stolen in scams between December 2024 and January 2025. These scams, allegedly orchestrated by Indian groups and low-level cybercriminals, involved impersonating Coinbase support to trick users into transferring funds to compromised addresses.

Coinbase has faced several controversies over user security and support issues. In 2021, users reported being locked out of their accounts during market volatility, leading to financial losses. Accusations of account restrictions and security threats have persisted, with attackers frequently impersonating Coinbase support.

In response to security concerns, Coinbase’s Senior Director of Product Management, Scott Shapiro, clarified that while VPN use alone doesn’t trigger security alerts, it may, combined with suspicious activity like unfamiliar logins.
